Hidden gems at the Camden Fringe Festival

This year’s Camden Fringe Festival has a jam-packed programme of new work, but with everything from chat shows to experimental sound pieces, it can be hard to know where to begin. Here are a handful of lesser known gems to help you on your way...

Theatre
AI and sex combine with scarily plausible results in Peter Miloshevski’s solo show The Passion according to BIBI (2-3 August, The Cockpit) while a man is taunted by a crab as he recovers from a breakup in the comically surreal Crabmeat (6-11 August, Tristan Bates Theatre).

Music
Never a festival to shy away from the unknown - if you're into multidisciplinary work, sound piece [whalesong] (1-4 August) at The Monkey House, described as ‘an absurd cross-arts performance about noise in the oceans', could be right up your street.

Comedy
Six girl scouts battle six aliens in Girl Scouts vs Aliens (31 Jul-1 Aug, Etcetera Theatre) - what more could you want? Highlights at The Albany include Holly Burn’s WIP show Gurn (2,3, 17 August), as well as chat show Next Best Thing on Next Best Thing (16-17 August) - which we’ve heard is the next best thing?

Spoken Word
Get your dose of nostalgia with this year's spoken word programme. Described as ‘a magician with words and images’, award-winning writer and storyteller Cathianne Hall’s new spoken word show The Famous 45 (20-22 August) is about adopting a child from 1945. Old meets (relatively) new in Super Hamlet 64 (17-18 August, The Cockpit), a fast-paced telling the tragedy this time with retro animation and gaming.

Dance
TobylikesMILK are back at Camden this year with new work, and with new friends; Faye Revlon & Hannah Milan, Haus of Anxiety, B-hybrid and The Yonis join them in The Alternative Dairy Experience (24-25 August, The Cockpit) to explore how the LGBTQ+ community has helped people to find their identities.

Be one step ahead of London's cultural scene - don't miss out on the Camden Fringe Festival, running from 30 July to 26 August at various Camden venues. Visit their website to see the full line up and book tickets!
