Raft of the Medusa at The Foundling Museum

A series of five sculptures from acclaimed artist Rachel Kneebone

29 September 2017 – 7 January 2018 | Visit website

Rachel Kneebone's porcelain sculptures take the material's preconceived notions of  Rococo exuberance and delicacy, and subvert them through scenes of collapse and dismemberment that seem both coquettish and sinister.

Kneebone exploits porcelain's material properties - allowing it to distort and crack in the kiln - and questions the relationship between strength and vulnerability. Raft of the Medusa provides a fascinating counterpoint to The Foundling Museum's Basic Instincts exhibition, and the Foundling Hospital's suppressed narratives of sexual desire, emotional damage and female strength.

Raft of the Medusa runs at The Foundling Museum from 29 September till 7 January. Entry is free.
