Thomas Ruff: Photographs 1979 – 2017

The German photographer has his first UK exhibition

The Whitechapel gallery host the first UK retrospective of German photographer, Thomas Ruff.  Ruff began his career in the 1970s as a student at the renowned art school Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. He has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions internationally, including recently Object Relations at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, a survey at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa both also in 2016 and Thomas Ruff: Lichten at the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst (S.M.A.K.) in Ghent in 2014.

Ruff's work is extremely diverse, encompassing different themes and forms of photography.  The exhibition has been organised thematically, moving from the everday and the cosmic, to contemporary political commentary on the media.

Thomas Ruff: Photographs 1979 – 2017 is at Whitechapel Gallery 77-82 Whitechapel High St London E1 7QX. The exhibition runs from 27 September 2017—21 January 2018.  Tickets £14.50/£12.95.
