Under the Skin

A lesbian love affair during the Second World War

26 March 2018 – 31 March 2018 | Visit website

Under the Skin tells one of the lesser-known true stories of the Second World War. The piece depicts the Lesbian love affair between Nazi officer Anneliese Kohlmann and one of the female Jewish prisoners in Neuengamme Concentration Camp. The show has close ties with both the LGBTQ and Jewish communities and was received warmly by audiences in its previous run at the Women and War festival and in Camden Fringe Festival this summer.

The play is based on Kohlmann’s Belsen trial protocol and on Holocaust survivors’ testimonies. It alternates between two periods in time – the first is during the first Gulf war in 1991, Tel Aviv, Israel. The second is set during WW2 in a labour camp in Germany, creating artistic parallels between past and present. This all-female production by Tik-sho-ret Theatre Company mixes styles of naturalism, Brechtian alienation, physical theatre and Ballet which helps unfold this emotional journey set through one of the darkest times in History.

Under the Skin is at The Old Red Lion Theatre from 26 - 31 March, tickets £12
