Guilty Pleasures

A New Year’s Celebration For Every Type Of Londoner

18 December 2018 Billie Manning

When it comes to New Years’ Eve, most people fall into one of two camps: ‘YAAAAASSSS’ or ‘UUUUGHHHHH’. But whichever side you’re on, there’s so much more to New Years’ Eve than a £50 ticket for a packed bar and lukewarm prosecco – London has some of the best and most varied ways to spend the last night of the year. We promise: there’s something here for everyone.

For those with tiny sidekicks
Start your family’s New Year revels early at the Southbank Centre’s daytime party with ex-music hall singer turned hip-hop goddess Ida Barr. A celebration of world-wide New Year’s Eve traditions, Ida’s party features sing-songs, dancing and traditions from around the globe. All ages can come and party hard, have a smashing time and still be in bed nice and early.

Ida Barr's New Years Eve Countdown, 11:30 am, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Rd, Lambeth, London SE1 8XX

For literal party animals
Make a splash at the Natural History Museum as you enter 2019 dancing beneath Hope the blue whale. The Museum is free to roam throughout the night and packed with animal-themed activities. Try your luck at Musical Bingo, sample edible insects, explore two blockbuster exhibitions (Life in the Dark and Wildlife Photographer of the Year), or get your groove on in the Silent Disco – and that isn’t even everything. This night is sure to be dino-mite (sorry).

Party Animals, from 8pm, Natural History Museum, Cromwell Rd, Kensington, London SW7 5BD

For those that just wanna have fun
Guilty Pleasures have established itself as one the number one pop-loving party, and their NYE event will bring only the best, glitteriest vibes to your night with plenty of sequins and feathers too. Once the clocks hit 12 Queen B impersonator Aaron Carty and his backing dancers, who together form The Beyonce Experience, will take to the stage to take you to Yonce heaven. Expect other dazzling dancers and cabaret performers, too, and not a single iota of irony.

Guilty Pleasures, 9pm-4am (last entry 11pm), KOKO, 1A Camden High St, London NW1 7JE

New Years for those looking for a laugh
If you really haven’t found 2018 that funny (have any of us?), Kentish Town institution the Lion and Unicorn will be helping you ring in the new year with a belly laugh at their New Years’ Eve comedy dinner. Darren Harriot headlines, getting you in a festive mood before a delightful dinner of the chef’s seasonal fare at 9.30, even leaving you with enough time should you still wish to head out for a party.

NYE Comedy and Dinner, Comedy at 7.30pm, dinner at 9.30pm, The Lion & Unicorn, 42-44 Gaisford Street NW5 2ED

For those with (very) deep pockets
If you fancy bringing in the New Year in luxurious style, and are also somehow still rolling in the dough by the end of December, head to the Savoy for one of its multiple New Years’ eve parties this year. Options range from unlimited canapés and champagne in the Beaufort Bar to celebrations in the famed Savoy Ballroom, with tickets for the latter coming in at a mere £450 – bargain!

The Savoy, The Strand, London WC2R 0EZ. Details of each event on their website.
