The Best Areas for Breakfast in London

1 February 2019

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and we say: true. Breakfast and brunching are becoming so popular that even pubs and bars have jumped on the most popular meal of the day by serving up a morning sausage or two. With so much to choose from, it's a challenge to narrow it down, so we at London Calling have chosen a select few to set you on the easiest way to devour the best brekkie in town.

Notting Hill
If it's good enough for Oliver Twist, it's good enough for all of us. But hunting down a good hearty bowl of porridge is not as easy as you think! Well, look no further: Notting Hill is the porridge epicenter of the city. Saturday is the day when the Notting Hill market comes to life, overflowing with a wealth of culture, art and little hidden gems, and you can stroll down Portobello Road to experience porridge heaven accompanied with some brown sugar and a few tangy prunes from every street café.
Local recommendation: Farm Girl
Healthy, wholesome brunch offered all day - or doughnuts, if you're feeling naughty. Notoriously dog-friendly

Spitalfields Market
If it's more of a savoury vibe that you're after, then head east to the Spitalfields market and get your teeth into some London street food fresh from the pan. Known for its exceptional beef sandwiches and it's succulent pies, the Spitalfields market is a stalwart of the London market - and thus breakfast - scene. The surrounding area is steeped in history with recurring weekly visitors who are always on the look out for that certain je ne sais quoi, and if you’re a fan of Sweeney Todd then you’ll definitely recognise a good pie when you see one...
Local recommendation: St John Bread and Wine
Its bacon sarnies are hailed as the best in London, and it's perfect to set you up for a morning of bargain hunting

Brick Lane
Usually renowned for it's curry houses, Brick Lane is covered with feisty, funky street art, graffiti and visual design and at times you might even feel that you've been transported back in time. Brick Lane is definitely one of London's coolest hangouts where you can walk from breakfast to brunch and maybe even manage to stick around for a zingy spicy curry dinner. Just follow the yellow brick lane...

Abbey Road
Take a trip down memory lane and take a walk on the wild side on the world famous Abbey Road, North West London’s hotspot where everyone ‘comes together’ to take a strut across that famous pedestrian crossing where The Beatles once walked. But that's not the only reason to visit the neighbourhood: the nearby St John's Wood is full of top notch breakfast joints frequented by Sir Paul himself. Smoothies, frozen yogurts and sushi are just a sliver of what’s on offer in this neck of the ahem, Woods.
Local recommendation: The Good Life Eatery
Excellent porridge with all the toppings you could dream of, filling smoothies and a wealth of alternative milk options
