Exhibitions of the Week: 28 January - 4 February

27 January 2019 Billie Manning

Spotlight on: Morag Keil - Moarg Kiel
Yes, you’re reading that right. Scottish artist Morag Keil is presenting her first major solo exhibiton, Moarg Kiel. Presenting key works from the past eight years of Kiel’s career, the exhibitions centres on four major installations reconceived for this presentation and brought together for the first time, alongside new and lesser-known earlier works. Keil’s work mostly comes in the form of video installations, but paintings and other installations will also be included in the exhibition, so you’re sure not to get bored.

Chief among the subjects Keil chews upon is that of the branding strategies employed by advertising and social media platforms used to influence behaviour in consumers. Gender roles, and how they are used in a similar fashion to influence us, are also a strong theme. It’s not small stuff she’s tackling, but it seems that Keil’s multidisciplinary approach is sure to rise to the challenge, if any can.
