London’s Best Small Festivals in 2019

15 March 2019 Billie Manning

Small but mighty, these are the best festivals of the summer you’ve never heard of. And you don’t even have to leave the capital…

Jam on Rye
Jam On Rye will be bringing superstar Kelis to Peckham in what is sure to be a show of carnival-esque proportions, plus founder of Soul 2 Soul Jazzie B and soul legend Omar. The one-day festival will also be bringing the cream of street food to Peckham Rye. Bleeker Burger – voted best burger London – will be leading the food charge. Families are also welcomed to join the shenanigans, with this years festival offering a playground situated inside a dome, with activities such as a messy ‘slime factory’ – sure to be just as fun for adults.

Brixton Disco Festival
If you can’t get enough of your Chic or adore your Amii Stewart, this early bird on the summer festival scene is certainly not one to miss. Operating across four spaces (Electric, Pow, the Ritzy and a food market on Windrush Square), the one-day festival will see Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King will be bringing her hits such as ‘Love Come Down’ and there will be sets from Stevie Wonderland and – of course – Horse Meat Disco.

Mighty Hoopla
Brainchild of legendary club nights Sink The Pink and Guilty Pleasures, the glitterful Mighty Hoopla will return to South London’s Brockwell Park this June for another round of riotous pop revels with more than a light sprinkling of flamboyance. Absolute funk legend Chaka Khan has been named as headliner, joined by names such as Jamelia and Kate Nash, plus more drag than you can shake a stiletto at.

Elrow Town
Up in the wild, leafy depths of North London, at the end of the Piccadilly line, the Elrow Town organisers are cooking up something to fit their out-there surroundings. Elrow have organised parties and festivals all over Europe, but the London event is their biggest yet, with the Barcelonian party-makers creating a day of surreal fun for dance music lovers. Think giant puppets, immersive performances, and quirky surprises the likes of which you’ve never dreamt.

The Ends
While The Ends doesn’t exactly look like it’s going to be tiny, it is totally new this year, so technically a baby on the London festival scene. Featuring musical heavyweights like Nas, who will kick things off on Friday, the festival is a proper weekender and will continue over three days, with Damian Marley closing out. The festival was created together with Croydon Council, and will showcase local talent alongside the big names.
