The Best Food in London this June

1 June 2017 Livvi Alderson-Tuck

June has arrived and along with it comes London Food Month – a four-week festival celebrating the incredible cuisine our capital has to offer. With new openings and summer pop ups galore you can easily get into the spirit of things and experience some of London's best food this June.

To celebrate London Food Month, the Evening Standard is holding a Night Market, combining the city's buzzing street food scene with some of London's most prestigious restaurants. Set in Perks Field, with a beautiful view of Kensington Gardens, this nightly feast will feature food from renowned chefs such Angela Hartnett and Ceviche and Andina's Martin Morales alongside a selection of London's finest street food vendors; Patty & Bun, The Cheese Truck and Mama's Jerk to name but a few. Summery cocktails, craft beers and award winning mixes will be served from the World Class Craft Bar, however if you fancy yourself as a budding mixologist make sure you check out the Bloody Mary masterclass from the Ketel One Vodka Kitchen. Better yet, you can feed your conscience as well as your belly, with £1 from every ticket purchased being donated to the Felix Project, a charity working on reducing food waste and providing food to the most vulnerable. With temperatures set to rise, the Night Market is a great way to spend an evening outdoors, and is set to be a summer highlight.

There's no doubt that dining alfresco is one of the best ways to enjoy the city, and Coppa, a modern Mediterranean restaurant near Tower Bridge, know this all too well. During the winter the Coppa Igloos were one of the most talked about pop-ups in the capital however, now the ice has melted, Coppa have decided to turn their ideal riviera location into a summery haven. Coppa Cabanas will allow you to soak up the sun, with a glorious view of the iconic bridge and the Tower beyond, and enjoy delicious Mediterranean cuisine such as fresh pastas and crispy pizzas. The cocktail menu has also had an injection of sunshine, with cocktails based on refreshing prosecco and Pimms – a quintessential summer staple. With twinkling fairy lights, wisteria twisting round the seats and the sweet smell of roses, this is one of the prettiest outdoor pop ups this summer.

Cheese is one of life's greatest pleasures, and London has a vast array of restaurants and shops celebrating its many amazing forms. Le Rac Shack is a street food phenomenon that has been serving up gooey, melted Alpine cheese, on top of a range of amazing ingredients, to Londoners for a few years now. However, this summer, it will be appearing as pop-up restaurant The Raclette Bar in Clapham. You’ll be able to melt your own cheese, with your own personal raclette burner, and pour it over cured meats, crispy potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Salivating yet? Well act fast, as this pop up is only open one week a month throughout the summer, and is tipped to be the talk of the town. With all food being served sharing style, this is the perfect way to dine with friends and family.

Another new opening in South West London will be serving tasty and authentic Japanese food to hungry Balhamites. Taro is opening a new branch in Balham, to join its other outlets in Cannon Street and Soho, and will be offering a wide range of Japanese noodles, teriyaki dishes and bento boxes. The Yaki Tori – tender, sticky chicken skewers – are super-tasty, and the marinated octopus is soft, caramelised and utterly delicious. To drink, you cannot head to Taro without trying some rice wine, and they have plenty of varieties from different parts of Japan to taste. However, if sake isn't your cup of tea, they do have a range of wines and beers on offer. With small dishes costing less than a fiver, this new opening will allow you to get a real taste of Japan without breaking the bank.
