This Week 1-7 May

1 May 2017 Belphoebe New

The month of May brings with it a lot of hope. Beginning with a bank holiday, it’s warmer weather and long summer evenings spent at barbecues from here on in! This week there’s the chance to spice up your life (and we’re not talking about the Spice Girls), see a reimagined biblical tale at the National Theatre or eat dinner on top of the famous BBC studios.

Freshmeets Spice Up Your Life

Let’s face it, we’re not all so great with spice in our food, but there’s no doubt that a dash of spice is the ultimate upgrade for any dish. This special event at Hello Fresh celebrates all-things spice, with a cooking demo by Middle Eastern food queen Sabrina Ghayour, a cocktail masterclass with award-winning mixologist Dav Eames and food from The Cheeky Indian, who have been fuelling punters across London from their street food stall. There’ll also be a spice Q&A to help you make delicious, flavourful dishes at home. If you want to branch out your cooking, don’t miss out!

Spice Up Your Life takes place at Hello Fresh, The Fresh Farm, 60 Worship Street, London, EC2A 2EZ on 3 May. Tickets are £10, find out more here.

Pulverised at Arcola Theatre

Arriving in the UK with a new English translation, Romanian born playwright Alexandra Badea’s play explores globalisation and the transformative effects it has on our lives. It centres on a quality assurance officer from France, a call centre manager from Senegal, a factory worker from China and an engineer from Romania, who despite living in different countries all work for the same multinational corporation. This is a powerful and disturbing portrait of an environment where the work seemingly never stops.

The Pulverised runs from Tuesday 2 – Saturday 27 May at the Arcola Theatre. Tickets are priced £17 (£14). Find out more at their website.

Salome at National Theatre

You may already be familiar with this dramatic biblical story, but not quite like this. The story of the vengeful Salome is transported to a desert nation, where a radical from the wilderness is on hunger strike and a girl dances a mysterious dance that will change the course of the world. Salome finds herself at the centre of a revolution in this urgent, hypnotic production.

Salome opens on 2 May and runs until 15 July at the National Theatre. Find out more and book tickets here.

The London Original Print Fair

Hosted in the elegant halls of the Royal Academy of Arts, The London Original Print Fair gives visitors the opportunity to begin their print collection by engaging with and buying directly from dealers and artists. From the earliest woodcuts to the latest editions by contemporary masters, this Fair brings together the talents of an underappreciated art form that has a significant worldwide community behind it.

The London Original Print Fair will run 4-7 May at The Royal Academy of Arts, adult tickets are £12 and concessions are £8. Find out more and book tickets here.

Pergola on the Roof

Remember to take your cameras for this one, because Pergola on the Roof is one of the most aesthetically pleasing dining experiences you could possibly have. Perched atop of the BBC studios in White City, the Pergola offers a haven from the hustle and bustle of the city below. You’ll dine under colourful plant wreaths (beautifully lit up at night) and enjoy plenty of options in the food court, from Patty and Bun burgers to Breado tacos. Remember to book for this one, as it’s notoriously popular.

Pergola on The Roof runs from 3 May to 1 October at BBC Television Centre, Wood Lane, White City, London, W12 7RJ. Find out more here.
