Detail from Ali Smith's 'Winter'

This Week 6-12 November

6 November 2017 Katie Da Cunha Lewin

Just because you can’t go outside without thermals on doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some amazing London culture! From film to theatre, comedy to talks, we have something for everyone this week.

The Art of British Natural History

Celebrating two books of British Wildlife, this free exhibition showcases the wide diversity of British wildlife. Based on Observer’s books and the Wayside and Woodland series, gorgeous prints and illustrations will show alongside scientific drawings, as well as artworks that respond to these historic images.

The Art of British Natural History is at the Natural History Musuem open from until July 2018. Entry is free.

Notorious - The Famous Lauren Barri Holstein

Blending art, dance and theatre, this radical show explores the presentation of female subjectivity in the age of consumerism and technology.  The Famous Lauren Barri Holstein, an academic and performer, has created and performed this witchy show in which she becomes the ‘female monster.’

Notorious - The Famous Lauren Barri Holstein is at the Barbican, 7-11 November. Tickets from £18.

Dave Johns: I Filum Star

After a star turn in Ken Loach’s arresting film I, Daniel Blake, Dave Johns comes to the stage at the Soho Theatre.  This award winning Edinburgh show covers his journey from obscure comedian to, as the title suggests, ‘filum star’ all in the space of a few months.

Dave Johns: I Filum Star is at the Soho Theatre from the 7-18 November. Tickets from £10.

Dulwich Literary Festival

Now in its fourth year, and run by local bookshop Dulwich Books, this engaging festival is hosted at various locations, including the Dulwich Picture Gallery, Dulwich College and All Saints Church.  With a decidedly political theme, join a range of writers to discuss their work - including Alexei Sayle on protest, Mihaela Noroc on her photography and Robert Peston on the current political climate. Ali Smith will also be there for a special event about Finnish writer, illustrator and artist Tove Jansson.

Dulwich Literary Festival is across venues in Dulwich 10-11 November.
