Top 5: Alternative Christmas Concerts in London 2017

Carol concerts come in all sorts of shapes and sizes at Christmas. We’ve had a look at what’s on offer and come up with some of the more unusual events on offer in London, including gospel carols, carols on a boat and family friendly singalongs.

Baby Broadway: Gospel Christmas Concert
 
Baby Broadway host musical events where even the littlest members of the family can join in the singing. This Christmas, they are putting on a series of Christmas gospel concerts across venues in London. Led by the CK Gospel Choir, adults and children can sing along to songs by Pharrell and Marvin Gaye, as well as traditional gospel songs.
 
Baby Broadway: Gospel Christmas Concert is at venues across London. Tickets £12 for adults, kids go free.

Charity Concert at Westminster Cathedral
 
This year, Westminster Cathedral, host a charity carol concert including both the Westminster Cathedral Choir and the Victoria Children’s Choir, along with the brass ensemble English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble.  There will also be a selection of readings from musician, broadcaster and author Cerys Matthews; writer, comedian, and presenter, Frank Skinner and The One Show and Match of the Day’s Adrian Chiles. Get there earlier for festive food and a craft market.
 
Charity Concert at Westminster Cathedral is on 14 December. Tickets £15.

Christmas Concert at the Cutty Sark
 
The Cutty Sark is one of London’s most unusual landmarks. This year, you can enjoy some festive spirit on this amazing boat.  Experimental band Joglaresa, famous for their rhythmic improvisations and re-imaginings of classic and contemporary songs, are joined for one night only by soprano sensation Dame Emma Kirkby to celebrate the release of their newest festive album.

Christmas Concert at the Cutty Sark is in Sammy Ofer Gallery on 16 December. Tickets £25.

Gospel Carols by Candlelight
 
International development charity Feed the Minds hosts a carol event combining classic carols with a performance from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa gospel choir. Everyone is welcome to this special night celebrating Christmas. Your ticket includes a warming cup of mulled wine and a mince pie to help get you into the festive mood. This is always a popular event, so booking is recommended.

Gospel Carols by Candlelight is at St Paul's Church on 18 December. Tickets £14.50.

Festival Family Carols by Candlelight
 
Join St Martin’s Voices for a festival family friendly evening in the gorgeous St Martin-in-the-fields.  Family favourites and classic carols with be performed by the new vocal ensemble St Martin’s Voices, conducted by Andrew Earis. Booking is strongly advised!
 
Festival Family Carols by Candlelight is at St Martins-in-the-fields on 22 and 23 Friday. Tickets from £6.30.
