Top 5: Mussels in London

14 December 2017 Katie Da Cunha Lewin

According to Maddie in the London Calling office, the best time for mussels is any month with an ‘r’ at the end, so that means that December is a goer! As we get to the end of the year, we thought we’d do a round up of places to go for a seafoody pre-Christmas pig out.

Le Garrick

Serving a mixture of French classics and traditional dishes with a twist, Le Garrick is one for anyone looking for classy French dining in central London. Choose from moules frites or mariniere, and pair it with some delicious white wine, chosen by an experienced sommelier.

Le Garrick is in Covent Garden.

Belgo

This Belgian chain started out in Chalk Farm in 1992, and has since gone from strength to strength, with venues now across London. They specialise in moules frites, as well as serving a huge selection of Belgian beers. Choose from moules in the traditional way, or go for something a bit different, served in a Spanish or Italian style, or even with kimichi!

Belgo has restaurants across London, in Soho, Central, Holborn and Kings Cross.

The Dove

Serving beers from around the world, but particularly from Belgium, The Dove on Broadway Market also serves a mixture of British, Belgian and Thai food. They serve an amazing moules mariniere with bread and chips, as well as a range of veggie options for any pals who aren’t keen on going down the mussel route.

The Dove is in Broadway Market.

Mon Plaisir

This is the oldest French restaurant in London; first opened in the 1940s, the restaurant has been owned and run by Lhermitte family for the last 50 years. You can either have moules mariniere for a starter, or with chips for a main course – either way, it’s sure to be absolute delicious.

Mon Plaisir is in Covent Garden.

Auberge

For a more relaxed dining experience, Auberge is located right by Waterloo station, so it’s perfect for after work dinner and drinks. Serving mussels in three ways, mariniere, provencale and Thai-inspired, take your pick of accompaniments, including crab tartare or snails if you are feeling brave.

Auberge is near Waterloo.
