Where to Eat: Fresh Pasta Bars in London

4 February 2019 Billie Manning

Fresh Meat: Emilia’s Aldgate
Millenials were perhaps the first generation that enjoyed pasta as an everyday meal as children, and with those children now grown up – some into foodies with the inclination to open restaurants – we are seeing a boom in the number of Italian restaurants, particularly those with a fresh pasta focus.

This is exactly the story of Emilia’s, the first branch of which opened at the end of 2016 in St Katharine Docks. The restaurant is owned by Andrew Macleod, who spent months in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy learning about the craft behind fresh pasta. The second branch of Emilia’s is now opening in Aldgate on 4 February.

You can expect more of the same simple but delicious recipes. There are plenty of pasta shapes to experiment with, from bucatini to rigatoni and something for all dietary types: pappardelle with 4-hour slow cooked bechamel bolognese with parmesan for meat-lovers, or for the veggies, casarecce (that’s short, folded-in twists of pasta to you and me) with walnut sauce and chestnut mushrooms.

The Aldgate location will also boast a bigger kitchen, meaning fresher-than-fresh specials will be on offer too. Looking forward to sunnier days, there will be outdoor seating for 24 covers – it wouldn’t be a proper trattoria otherwise! Your pup will be welcome to join you in the outdoor area too – Emilia’s is known for loving furry friends.

Head down now to take advantage of their soft launch offer: 50% off food from 4-17 February! We know that all the bookable tables are reserved for the soft launch, but we will have some space for walk-ins.
